An Interesting (Raiders related) Prediciton
Checking my email today I ran acrossed a very intriguing prediction from a fellow Raiders fan:
OK, here it is.... Lamont Jordan is going to gain more yards in one
season than any other Raiders running back in 20 years. In other
words, more than the 1294 that Kaufmann gained in 1997. And because
of this, the Raiders' defense is going to be much more rested and
have less time on the field and the Raiders WILL be in the playoffs.
There will be no 8-in-the-box against an offense featuring
Rice/Porter/Curry. As long as the young offensive line can keep it
together, look out.
For the most part I agree with this. Our running game has been perhaps the most anemic, if not inconsistent part of the offense over the past few seasons. How many RB's have we had that have either been injured or just havent panned out over the past decade? Or better yet, the past five seasons? Wheatley, Fargas, Hambrick, Garner (sorta...he wasn't exactly the every down back that Bo or Marcus Allen were)...
Defensively though, well, I would like to have seen this prediciton read more along the lines of "our D will finally stop teams on 3rd down". Being on the field less is one thing. Forcing the other team off the field is entirely another.
But I can now sleep easier at night not see anyone stacking 8 in the box anymore against us.
